This liver cleansing smoothie is great for detoxing
If you’ve recently overdone it with the alcohol or junk food (haven’t we all?) and are feeling a bit worse-for-wear, this pink beetroot smoothie is just what you need. It’s filled with some of the best liver cleansing foods out there to help nurse you back to great health in no time!
After being teetotal for the best part of a year, I recently went out for a friend’s birthday and perhaps celebrated a little too hard. And by celebrated too hard, I mean I had 3 cocktails and went to bed at midnight. But despite alternating my cocktails with water and hydrating well before bed, I still woke up feeling a bit hungover. Turns out alcohol affects me more than I previously thought.
I immediately went to my kitchen to get some berries and bananas to make me feel better. Sadly, I didn’t have any berries or bananas left. But I did have a bag of carrots and some beetroot. Yay….
As unappetising as they were in that moment, I knew how great those foods would make me feel better. I’d read before they were brilliant for detoxing. I’d previously done a lot of research about liver cleansing and found that the best way to “detox” your body is to drink plenty of water and eat brightly-coloured fruit and vegetables. Carrot and beetroot are two of the most vibrant out there!
I then remembered that I also had some raspberry-flavoured coconut water. (Yes, that’s a thing and it’s AMAZING. If you’re in the UK buy it from Home Bargains.) That’s when I came up with the idea to make this liver cleansing smoothie. I added some ginger and lemon to the mix for extra vitamin C and it turned out absolutely perfect! It was the most beautiful, deep pink colour and was surprisingly delicious. I swear it tastes just like sherbet.
